1.  Why should I choose Advanced Prosthetics Center?
There are many good prosthetic companies around the nation you could consider, but few if any offer the comprehensive outcome base program of Advanced Prosthetics Center, LLC.  Weíll not only take the time to fully optimize the fit and function of your new prosthesis, but youíll also be receiving physical therapy to enhance your prosthetic use.  The combined efforts of our prosthetists and therapists ensure that youíll achieve the desired outcome you came to us for.

2.  How does the fit of a prosthesis effect physical therapy?
Physical therapy is a valuable tool for increasing the strength and endurance of a patient.  It is meant to challenge a personís current ability and work towards making meaningful improvements.  By challenging a personís physical ability, therapy equally challenges the fit of the prosthesis.  We have found a direct correlation between prosthetic discomfort and proper physical therapy.  When a patient receives proper therapy he or she may have some level of residual discomfort.  This occurs because the fit of a prosthesis isnít challenged enough during fitting appointments.  As an example, a patient may only put 80% of their weight through the prosthesis during a fitting appointment, but in therapy, the therapist may have a patient complete an exercise that requires a patient to apply 90% or 100% of their weight through the prosthesis.  This increased weight on the prosthesis can cause pain.  When these fitting problems occur a Prosthetist must be readily available to assist the Therapist and patient with rectifying the problem so that meaningful therapy can resume.

3.  What happens when the fitting problems arenít corrected?
If a patient experiences discomfort during therapy or outside of therapy and nothing is done to rectify the problem a patient will automatically compensate to reduce the pain.  This compensation results in a less effective and less efficient gait.  As you can image, any gait deviation left unattended for an extended period of time, will cause permanent gait habits and potentially long-term problems.  Proper therapy doesnít let the patient compensate for the pain and instead makes the patient experience the pain so that a solution can be identified.
